Fun Park Cancelled as Weather Takes its Toll!

A popular fun park and kite festival due to take place in Prestatyn has had to be cancelled as the recent spell of bad weather has made the Bastion Road Playing Fields unsuitable to accommodate the rides and attractions which make up the event. All preparations had been finalised, posters were in shops across the region and the rides were due to roll in for the annual European Fun Park when a final check on the ground found it unable to accommodate some of the attractions leaving organiser Jan de-Koning with no option but to pull the plug.

Speaking he commented, “We love coming to Prestatyn each year for the Easter holidays but with the bank holiday falling just about at its earliest we were always going to need some luck with the weather. Unfortunately we have had one of the coldest March month’s ever, plus numerous layers of snow and plenty of rain which has made the Bastion Road Playing Fields vulnerable to the weight of some of our larger rides.

The last thing we want to do is make a mess of the field as it is needed all year round for the people of the town who make us feel very welcome on our annual visits, it has been a difficult decision but one we did not take lightly and following discussions with the town council we have decided that in order to give the playing fields chance to dry up we will leave it for this year. We will be back though for the annual carnival in July this year and should be back with the Easter Fair and kite festival in 2019. We know people will be disappointed but hope they will understand our decision.”

The fair was due to open from Thursday March 29 th through until Sunday April 8 th and any shopkeepers who have displayed posters are being asked to keep their complimentary tickets for use at next year’s event which will be held over the third weekend in April and over the Easter holidays.
